Dear Mr Adhikari,

I am sorry but I cannot have be article  ready for you by October of this year. I have a very full schedule. For one thing, I have been obligated to give papers in connection with conferences dealing with "Encounters Between Europeans And Other People's In the Wake of Columbus". One of the conferences is in October and the other is in December.

I hope you will be able to wait until next year. Why not invite me formally to give a special lecture on Vidyasagar? Then I could apply for travel money to go to Calcutta. Then I could do special on writing decent somewhat original paper on the great man.

Dear Mr. Adhikari,

This is just a short note to convey to you the happy news that my dissertation entitled "Jathra Dharma" the religios worldview of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar has been successfully defended at Harvard University. I will receive my Ph.D on June 4, I owe you a debt of gratitude for making the thesis possible. I hope that by the fall I shall have the copies available to forward to Calcutta.

I am always eager to hear news from Calcutta. So please write if you find the time. I am especially eager to know more about your own writing project. Are you still working on a new biography of Vidyasagar?

It is my hope that some opportunity will arise before too long for me to return to Calcutta. For now I hope you are in the best health and pursuing your many interests.

Final words

The great grandson of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Shri Santosh Kumar Adikary took his last breath on Tuesday 31st March 2015. A noted poet and researcher, Sri Adhikary wrote biographies of historical personalities, fiction, non-fictions and books on poetry. His greatest contributions include his books on Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Vidyasagar. Few of his other books are, "Onno Kono Khane," "Digonter Megh" and "Padi". His lecture on the "Rise of Nationalism in Bengal" in the Chicago University, USA and on Vidyasagar in Calcutta University enlightened students, researchers immensely. He was also the principal of the United Bank Staff Training College.
