Dear Mr. Adhikari,

This is just a short note to convey to you the happy news that my dissertation entitled "Jathra Dharma" the religios worldview of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar has been successfully defended at Harvard University. I will receive my Ph.D on June 4, I owe you a debt of gratitude for making the thesis possible. I hope that by the fall I shall have the copies available to forward to Calcutta.

I am always eager to hear news from Calcutta. So please write if you find the time. I am especially eager to know more about your own writing project. Are you still working on a new biography of Vidyasagar?

It is my hope that some opportunity will arise before too long for me to return to Calcutta. For now I hope you are in the best health and pursuing your many interests.

Yours,
Brian A. Hatcher

  1. An appropriate tribute to the great soul of late Santosh Kumar Adhikary --- a lover of knowledge and a well wisher of the people having yearning for advanced studies on Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidya sagar, Netaji Shubhas Ch. Bose and some other fields of his interest. We wish we get all his writings be published in one collection. May his soul rest in peace.
